Shillong, August 21: Irked over the adamant attitute of the state to address the grievances faced by teachers in the state, the All Teachers’ Association of Meghalaya (JACATCM) will take series of agitation programmes starting from August 27.
Announcing the agitation programme at a public meeting held at Synod Complex here on Wednesday JACATCM chairman ED Nongsiang informed that the first phase of their series of agitations starting from August 27 till September 5.
Lamenting over the failure of the government in addressing their problems Nongsiang said that the behavior and approach of the Education Minister, Prof RC Laloo on this matter and the fact that he had to direct his officers to talk with us instead of meeting us himself, it very disappointment.
Highlighting the agitation programmes NOngsiang informed that members of the association will wear black badges on August 27, observe pen down strike on August 29 followed by a mass Casual Leave (CL) on September 3, dharnas in various districts and zones on September 4 and a mass rally to be held in Shillong on September 5.
Condemning the minister’s refusal to meet the members of the association, Nongsiang who is also the president of the Khasi Jaintia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) said that Laloo’s hesitation to meet them is a sense of irresponsibility and rejection.
He also informed that the JAC only received a letter sent by the education minister to the Deputy Secretary of education instructing him to write a letter to the Director of School Education and Literacy asking him to call the members of the association and officers of the education department to converge in the office of the Commissioner and Secretary of Education LR Sangma to discuss on the matter.
It was also mentioned that the demands included—regular and uniform payment of salary to all the teachers of the government aided schools and colleges, provincialisation of teachers’ services or professions to all government aided schools, implementation of the state education policy and MBOSE/Examination reforms.(SP News)
