Shillong, Oct 2: Almost 10 drivers’ post is vacant in different departments of the state government but the youths who are qualified for the post are lying jobless.
Addressing a press conference today at the Shillong Press Club, Ezra Namsaw, the convener of the Drivers Qualified Candidates (DSC) 2012 said, “Total 25 qualified candidates are still waiting for their appointment to these posts.”
Namsaw further informed that the result of the exams for the post of Driver 2012 was declared on 4th July 2012 and a total of 45 candidates passed the exams and qualified for appointment in the different government departments. However only out of 45 only 8 were given appointed after which appointment to these posts were stopped.
When asked if they have approached any government official Namsaw said, “When we met the Deputy Commissioner we were told that all the post have been occupied,” adding, “Since the departments never informed the DSC of any drivers’ vacant posts therefore we decided to file a Right To Information (RTI) in many government departments including PHE, Health, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Forest, Agriculture, Horticulture.”
“The RTI report revealed that many posts are still lying vacant and only 12 more candidates were given appointment; We are very worried as the period of validity of the remaining 25 qualified candidates has lapsed and we would not be in consideration for any appointment,” stressed Namsaw.
Namsaw further urged the concerned authority for the extension of the period of validity so that the candidates do not remain jobless. “We urge the government to extend the period of validity and also appoint the remaining 25.”
One of the candidates, L Marwein said, “We enquired about the status of the letter and we were told that the letter has been forwarded to the respective departments for further examination.”(SP News)
