Shillong, May 12:The 2558th anniversary of Gautama Buddha’s life, also known as Vesak or Buddha Purnima, is going to be celebrated in Shillong with a variety of traditional and modern festivities.
Each year, the holy festival of the birth, enlightenment and Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha falls on the full moon day of Baishakh (first month of the Hindu lunar calendar).
In 2014, Buddha Purnima is going to be celebrated on May 14 (Baishakh 31, according to the Hindu calendar).
In preparation of the celebration of the birth anniversary of Lord Buddhu, the Meghalaya Tamang Buddhist Association (MTBA) and Sangling Gumpa in collaboration with Pasteur Institute and several other clubs organized a joint blood donation camp at CERA, Jhalupara on May 11, 2014 wherein around 56 persons participated.
Speaking to this reporter president of MTBA said, “One can save ones life in various ways and one way is by donating blood and we are very happy if we can save even a single life,” adding , “we will continue this deed every year in our aim to be of some help to the needy.”(SP News)
