The 257 Recruits of the Assam Regimental Centre were attested today

Shillong, Nov 27: In a glittering ceremony held at the Parsons Parade Ground of the Assam Regimental Centre, 257 Recruits of the Assam Regimental Centre were attested on 27 November 2013.  Dr Mukul Sangma Honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya reviewed the parade, which was witnessed by the parents, relatives of the recruits and a large number of senior Army officers and civil dignitaries.

The young soldiers on completion of an arduous and demanding training schedule, pledged to serve and defend the motherland, if need be, by making the supreme sacrifice.        In his address to the attested young soldiers the chief guest extolled the virtues of selfless service to the nation and recounted the contributions of the North East and Assam Regiment towards nation building.  He complimented the young soldiers on their impeccable standards, impressive parade and exhorted them to persevere in pursuit of excellence.

The coveted overall “Best Recruit and Dah of Honour” was presented to Sepoy Hingba Maram and following awards were presented during the Passing Out Parade,    Best in Bayonet Fighting – Sepoy TS Mohring.     Best in Physical Training – sepoy J Medhi.          Best Firer – Sepoy Salew Piku O.  Best in Drill- Sepoy Panmei D Kabui.Best Marching Contingent           Toungoo Platoon.   Best in Military Subjects – Sepoy Hingba Maram.

It was indeed a proud moment for the kith and kin of these recruits who had come from far flung areas to witness the eventful ceremony in which their wards participated. On this occasion, proud parents of the soldiers were given ‘Gaurav Padak’ by the Chief Minister to acknowledge their contribution towards nation building. Swaying to the tilting tune of the Regimental song, the young soldiers erupted up in joyous cheer to mark a successful transition to valiant manhood. (SP News)
