The AFDSI will organized Shillong run 3013 in aid of Vidyajyoti Inclusive School

 

Shillong, July 22: Moving towards a noble cause, the Agency for Sustainable Development Initiatives (AfDSI) will organise the ‘ShIllong Run 2013’ for the third time this year in order to raise funds for constructing school buildings for Rev. Amirkha School for Disabled at Mawlai and Mairang Vidyajyoti Inclusive School at Mairang.

The run which will be held on August 3 at 7 AM from Polo parking lot also aimed at spreading awareness about children with disabilities. “It’s the third time such event is happening in the state capital,” Director of AfSDI, Rev ET Sohliya said while addressing a press conference here on Monday.  “Through this run we are being able to spread awareness about children with disabilities,”

Further, Rev Sohliya informed that seeing the need to cater to such children in the society two schools had been started so that it can provide better facilities for formal and non-formal educational services and vocational training programmes.

“In these two schools there are 124 students and 28 of them are children with disabilities,” Sohliya said adding “With the funds raised through the run, the agency has been able to build the school. In the first ever event, the agency collected an amount of Rs 12 Lakhs and in the second Rs 7.40 Lakhs.”

Stating about the criteria of the run, Sohliya said that there will be two groups, senior and junior category.  “For the senior category the registration fee is Rs 100 and for junior it is Rs 50,” Sohliya asserted.

He also added that the registration forms are available at Sports Centre Polo, Tee Kay Electricals Mawlai, Rubok Sports Umsohsun and KJP Synod Sepngi Office Mission Compound.

He also said that the race will start sharp at 7 AM from Polo parking lot and winners will be awarded with cash prizes. Later, Sohliya also informed that after the run, Bansara Eye care will conduct free screening camp for all the participants.(SP News)
