The AMCSA will meet Chief Minister on delay of issuing Exemption Certificate

Shillong November 29: The delay in issuing of Exemption Certificate to the contrators of the state has put them in great difficulty as without it the contrators would not received their bills even as the contractors have to apply online and take more time to get the Exemption Certificate wherein they have to submit these Exemption Certificate to the respective Departments they are working to receive their bills.

Expressing concerned the regional contrators of the state under the banner ‘All Meghalaya Contractor and Supplier Association (AMCSA)’  met with the Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Shillong, Deepak Singh seekiing clarification that all the regional contractors should not pay any tax to the Central Government adding that most of the contractors both from rural as well as urban areas have no knowledge about online system.

However, it was informed that since their discussion turns out to be unsuccesful, the Association submitted the representation to the Chief Commissioner of income Tax, Guwahati on November 16 last on the said issue.

In a press statement issued here on Thursday President of the Association Gilbert Laloo informed that the association approached the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Guwahati on November 22 last to clearly discuss on their grievances wherein the Association clearly stated that all the contractors under AMCSA should not be deducted from any taxation.

Laloo informed that during the discussion, the Chief Commissioner of income Tax, Guwahati, D. P. Hoakip said that it is not his decision to apply online for the Exemption Certificate but it is the order coming from the Central Government adding that the difficulty is that the system would not accept Zero percent taxation.

Further, the Association demanded the Chief Commissioner to rectify the system from Delhi which the Chief Commissioner has agreed to sent a letter to the Central Government to allow zero percent.

Meanwhile, it was also informed that after a brief discussion among the Chief Commissioner of income Tax, Assistant Commissioner income Tax, Shillong and members of the Association, they have all agreed that the taxation for the time being will be 0.01 percent meaning that Rs. One lakh, the taxation will be Rs. 10 so that the system will allow to file the forms of the contractors in order for them to get the Exemption Certificate to receive their bills before Christmas.

Moreover, the Association will convene a meeting with Meghalaya Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma to discuss on this matter.(SP News)
