The ANVC(B) claim that they were defensive not offensive in shooting two police personal

Tura, Jan 08: A day after ANVC breakaway fraction has opened fire at a police team, injuring two personnel. ANVC(B) claimed that its cadres open fire in defence and not with an intention of being offensive.
ANVC(B) leader Doang Shira on Wednesday alleged ANVC.B cadres were defensive not offensive. This is not the first time police tried to enter our camp. There was no provocation on the Police from our side. We had to be cautious and take precautions as the leaders were in the camp. 7th January was the dateline for all ANVC.B cadres to report at the camp.
He said, the camp was welcoming cadres and listing the absconding cadres when we got report of Police vehicles full of SWATs and CRPFs parked outside the camp. After sometime a black gypsy ML 05G 7209 which had no number plate at the back tried to enter the camp with men in civil dresses. He added saying, They claimed to be police but we were not sure as they were not ready to produce any documents and we suspected rivals coming in the guise of police.
As the argument was going on the men on the back of the gypsy took out automatic guns and pointed at the cadres. That is when the cadres pointed their weapons back at them and someone burs ted a firecracker from behind. The policemen started to flee and hurt themselves and blamed us as have fired at the unprovoked. We were only being defensive, but police came to kill and destroy the camp.
Shira said the ANVC (B) had no intention to attack any policeman but the provocation from the police side was making the cadres insecure after the disappearances of their colleagues
Shira said that the outfit has now decided to go back to the jungle as it is the only place after the ANVC (B) some was destroyed by police. He said, they did not plan any attack, if we did then those policemen would not have survived.
Shira said in the press release, they called up SP Tura to clarify but he was very provocative and was refusing to come to an understanding and diffuse the situation which clearly indicates everything was pre-planned. The tone in which he spoke was mean therefore cadres had to moved out to safety. We did not plan any attack, if we did than those policemen would not have survived.

We had no intention to attack any police but the provocation on the cadres who were already feeling insecure after the disappearances of it’;s cadres was a little too much. Sending an unofficial vehicle which was easily mistaken to be a civilian with Shillong number put a doubt that rival groups pretending as policemen. Moreover, there was no prior information of any fir and forces waiting outside tensed the cadres more as we had proof of police and ANVCs working together on various occasions.

ANVC.B left the camp not to confront and deteriorate the situation. ANVC.B cadres are moving back to the jungle as the only place which was a home to ANVC.Bs was burnt down and destroyed by police personals. It was a sad moment and many of our cadres cried seeing the place which was a home for last one year being burnt down by policemen. It was very mean.

“We called up SP Tura to clarify but he was very provocative and was refusing to come to an understanding and diffuse the situation which clearly indicates everything was pre-planned. The tone in which he spoke was mean therefore cadres had to moved out to safety. We did not plan any attack, if we did than those policemen would not have survived.”

ANVC.B had only one place which was our home. SP claims it to be illegal than what does Government has to say about it? Chairman of our organisation did everything for last one year to keep the cadres in order, where was the Government? What support did Govt provide for coming to Peace with the Government? Why was the illegality not pointed out then? SP Tura spilled out a crucial evidence that we were illegal, our camp was illegal? That means all our cadres who were arrested, killed and disappeared fell prey to the illegality and corrupt policy of the Govt?. said Shira.

ANVC.B cadres refrained from attempting anything that could disrupt the peace in the area. Even the incident that took place yesterday was provoked by police and ANVC.B was defensive. Govt must take this matter seriously as many cadres have felt the brutality of the Police as unjustified. “They have made us homeless, they will face the same” was the last slogan cadres vowed before departing to their areas. Those who returned to the camp included Nawang and some cadres who deserted Norok. The ANVC.B were happy to welcome them all but it was short lived.

Ajaju and his Memang Command are the ones who captured the Gypsy and looks like not damaging the gypsy was a regrettable mistake. There is revenge in their eyes which is going to be mean as they have been specially trained for last 17 years by different commanders. Their specialty is improvising everything into a deadly weapon. They were here to celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the peace pact said Doang D Shira.(SP News)
