Tura, March 15: The Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) today lambasted chief minister, Mukul Sangma for his resent comment against the out fit in the assembly. Mukul had said, “One of the reason why people joined militant group is to make easy money”.
A statement issued by the GNLA sergeant, Savio Marak said, “Mukul’ comment shows his autocratic stand and his lack of understanding about our cause”.
Mukul had made the statement in the floor of the assembly on Wednesday after Meghalaya governor K K Paul expressed concern over increased GNLA activities in Garo hills and parts of West Khasi Hills.The outfit castigated all legislator for remaining silent on Mukul’s statement. Savio said, “Government should focus on why insurgency is growing in Garo hills and try to address the issue rather than trying to blame us”.
Defending GNLA and its cause, Savio said, “Our chairman Champion Sangma is learned and educated and he knows, why he had to take up arms for the sake of Garos. We are not greedy for money”.He even said that Champion is committed to resolve the problem and lack of development the region is facing. “GNLA was formed with anideology, as successive government failed to provide development. We stand by our demand for a separate Garoland state”, he added.
GNLA has expressed its willingness to come forward for peace talks with demand for the release of its jailed chairman Champion Sangma,however, the government is yet to respond.Mukul had said, “Government will examine their demand before taking
