The cabinet approve the amendment of rule of the Assam Police Manual

Shillong, Jan 07: Meghalaya government approved the amendment of rule 53 (1) of the Assam Police Manual for implementation of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) in the state.
Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma told reporters that amendment was based on the observation that the Assam Police Manual which the state is following is definitely something which was conceptualized and adopted long time ago before technologies were ultimately adopted for use in effective policing.
Sangma said the CCTNS project is initiated by Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) wherein all the police stations can be brought under this system to have access to all kinds of information which are entered in respective police stations.
Meanwhile, Cabinet has approved the proposal for amending the Remuneration Rules to enable the state to constitute the Police Accountability Commission (PAC) mandated by the Meghalaya Police Act.
He said that the reason why the Government felt it necessary to amend the rules and allow providing the kind of remuneration attractive enough for people to apply for filling up the three members’ commission and enable the government to constitute the commission.(SP News)
