The census 2011 show that agriculture in Meghalaya is declining

PCA_Presentation on the Census of MeghalayaShillong, May 17: The Chief Minister of Meghalaya today released the census book of the state at the function held at the conference room in the main secretariat. According to the census the state has a population of 2,96,6889 lakh.

Speaking on the occasion the chief minister said that the government should introspect why people in Meghalaya are declining to take up agricultural work. The Department should fine out what is the cause behind that people are decreasing in take up cultivation.

The Chief Minister said that with the proper census that the government has it will help the government in policy making for the over all development that the government will decide.

The census that was released today show shw that the decadal growth of population in hat state is 27.9%. From the total population of 2,966,889, the male are  1,491,832 and the female are 1,475,057. The city population is 595,450 and the rural population are 237,1439.

On the population growth the Chief minister said that there might be due to many reason, most probably the health care facilities provided by the government has improve. Taking from the point of the children 0 to 6 years the death rate has decline and the aged person also lives longer, this might be the cause of the growth of population.

The Joint Director of the Census government of India said that all the date is available in the official website of the census if people want to see.(SP News)
