Shillong Dec 6: The Civil Defence and Home guards celebrated its
at its head quarter in Mawdiangdiang today.The two organisations who were actively involved in providing necessary assistance in emergencies and calamities both natural and man-made strikes.
Speaking the 50th Annual Day as the chief guest minister in charge of civil defence and home guards Shitlang Pale lauded the rendered services of these organizations who always dare the danger and come forward to help the people who met with crisis in times of emergencies.
Besides Pale said that these two organizations plays an important role in providing assistance to the state police and civil administration in maintaining law and order.
While mentioning about the training imparted by the Civil defence Pale said that from year to year the frequency of training courses are being increased whereby the number of the home guards volunteers to be trained in a year will be increased from 530 to 846 and similarly, there will be a significant increase in the number of civil defence volunteers to be trained.
Pointing out at the number of candidates being provided training During 2011-12, the minister informed that there were 3185 civil defence volunteers and as many as 1617 trained homeguard volunteers were being imparted training and most of them are currently deployed with various government departments, public sector units and private agencies.
“This has helped the concerned volunteers in earning some income while providing security to the concerned departments and agencies”, the civil defence minister said.
While informing about the problems encountered by the homeguards in terms of getting a land for construction of family quarter informed that a proposal has been moved by the civil defence and home guards directorate to the state government to allot additional land at Mawdiangdiang for construction sufficient number of family quarters and barracks as the existing land is not sufficient for the purpose.
The same proposal has also been sent to the state for construction of the same in Jowai and Tura.Besides, Director General of Civil Defence and Homeguard Prem Singh also informed that the department of civil defence and Home guards have sent a proposal to the government for the creation of a civil defence office in four districts in addition to the existing offices in three districts to further strengthen the two organizations..(SP News)
