Shillong, April 06: The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today decided to file Wansuk Syiem as their candidate for the Bye Election to the Rajya Sabha which is schedule on 18 of this month. The remaining term is for one year.
With this Smt Wansuk Syiem will be the first women MP to the Rajya Sabha from Meghalaya to complet the remaining one year term that was left by Thomas Sangma of the NCP.
The CLP also decided that they will nominate Sanbor Shullai of the NCP as their candidate for the post of the Deputy Speaker. The election for the deputy speaker post will be held during the current budget session.
Speaking to reports after the CLP meeting the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that since they NCP is working together at the state and the decision was also taken by the central leaders between the Congress and the NCP. The nomination of Wansuk Syiem as the candidate for the By Election to the Rajya Sabha wan endorse by the president of the AICC Smti Sonia Gandhi.(SP News)
