The critical juncture where skills have become the new mantra of the day: Roshan

Shillong, August 8: Lauding the efforts of the students for bringing laurels, as well as their parents and the staffs of the college, St Edmunds’ College today held a felicitation program for passed out 3rd year students at the auditorium of the college.

The total pass percentage of the 3rd year students in 2013 is 97% with 74 total number of position holders. Department of Electronics and Environmental Science of St Edmunds’ College bagged total 100 % position holders from 1st till 10th position.

“Our College is the only college in northeast that can be called a cosmopolitan college wherein students from all states come here and study under one roof and excel in life,” said the Principal of the college Dr Sylvanus Lamare, while giving the inaugural speech.

According to Dr Lamare, if the teachers and the students work together marvelous things can happen. He expressed hope that the graduating batch will continue with the legacy of innovativeness and professional excellence that will take the country to global heights and make the society a better place to live.

Hon’ble Home Minister, Government of Meghalaya, Roshan Warjri, while addressing the gathering as chief guest, said that the need of the hour is to focus on building and setting skills on building employment factor.

“We have reached the critical juncture where skills have become the new mantra of the day,” said the Home Minister.

The minister further said, “We need to be brave, face the reality and question ourselves whether we are empowered enough to go out of the walls of the college and dare the challenges.”

Warjri asked the students to dare to be caring, compassionate to those who are less fortunate and carry the flame of hope and “bring about the desired changes.”

The programme, which began with lighting of the lamp, was followed by presentation awards and felicitation of the passing out students.The Vice Chancellor of NEHU, Prof P Shukla graced the occasion as guest of honor.(SP News)
