Shillong, Nov 06: The CSWO condemns the attack and killing of the 5 police personnel in South Garo Hills District, by unknown persons. The CSWO is also shocked to see that in spite of intelligence alert the Police personnel were not provided with bullet proof vehicles, and recklessly sending a team driven by the driver of the Fire service who is also not in the armed branch, to escort a UTP, is very unfortunate.
This seems to be an intentional modus operandi of the Police risking the life of their own thereby creating instability and fear even within the force. In the city of Shillong which is overpopulated, we see the UTP’s being brought to court in a van well covered but here in the far flung villages where there is much unrest and intimidations between the Police and the Non State Actors, the police personnel should have got more well-armed protection.
This seems to be a well-planned attack, and is also surprising that the there is no driver from the Police and they had to take the services of the Fire and Emergency Service. It is also more surprising that when the personnel were shot all the phones of the DC, SP South Garo Hills were switched off as they were attending a meeting, to condemn the serving of demand notes to these officers alleged the CSWO president.
It is also surprising to note, that when there were no survivors from the attack and no witnesses, who is the informer for the Police. The Police Department seems to be in chaos with each running their own show at their own whims and fancies and thereby also risking the lives of their men.
Senior Police seem to be protecting only the Politicians, bureaucrats and themselves, putting the rest of the force at risk. The CSWO sends condolences to the bereaved family of the slain personnel, and urge the State Department to initiate an inquiry by honest Officers who are not influenced, so as to get to the bottom of this killing, as the state for once needs answers to all this insecurity and unrest, leading to murders and killings, of the people both public and in the force.
