Tura, 16th Oct: In a note of defiance to the ongoing protests for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) within the state, the District Administration announced that the upcoming cycle marathon would continue as usual. The event which was to be held on the 17th of October from 7 am in the morning is set to start as usual.
The 43 km cycle marathon is set to be the first of its kind event in the region and is set to change the thought of the people towards using cycles for conservation of the environment. The organizers for the event, Northern United club and the William Initiative said the response to the program has been unbelievable with more than 300 already joining in the Marathon.
Daryl W Momin, the President of the William Initiative said, “There has been tremendous response to the event and many have even come from far off places to enter the event. We did not want to disappoint the people who had come and thus asked the DC to help. The administration has asked us to continue with the event as usual”.
The DC of WGH, Pravin Bakshi said, “There has been a lot of preparations by the people behind the event to make it a success. There are also a lot of financial implications that cannot be replicated later. We will ensure security is maintained for all the people in the event and all precautions are being taken in this regard. We hope the event will be a grand success”.
The cyclothon is set to start from the Law College Ground, Tura and will be flagged off by the Minister of Sports, Zenith M Sangma. The cyclists will cover a distance of 43 kms to be received the CM, Dr Mukul Sangma, in the Ampati Ground. There are 10 hydrating points through the distance and security is expected to be extremely tight for the event. The winner would be richer by Rs 50,000 and is to be held under the aegis of the CM’s Youth for Green campaign.(SP News)
