Shillong, Jan 4: The proposed meeting between the state government with the ANVC which will be convene on Saturday in the city has drawn the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) to lay down certain demands with respect to improvements and amendments of laws passed by the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) amongst others.
The demands put forward by the GSU include 100 percent reservation of indigenous tribals in the GHADC besides they have also expressed the need for reservation of seats for women in the district council besides de-politicization of the council.
President of the GSU while informing this on Friday said, “For better development of Garo Hills, we also demand a direct funding from the centre to the district council”.
While commenting on the need to amend the obsolete laws to keep up with the contemporary situation, Momin also said that the GHADC should implement the provisions of the Land Transfer Act 1972 to ensure protection and preservation of indigenous land.
Besides, it was also learnt that the union has also put forth their demand for scrap out the Mouza 6 in Garo Hills which enable non-tribals to get hold of land pattas.
Meanwhile, the GSU has also appealed the ANVC and ANVC-B to consider the meeting as a step towards bringing peace and security in Garo Hills. .(SP News)
