Shillong, March 25: The department of Medical Health services along with the national Rural health Mission launched the Weekly iron Folic Supplementary (WIFS) Programme in the state on Monday.
The WIFS was launched by the Health Minister AL Hek at a function which was held at U Soso Tham auditorium.
The WIFS programme aimed at reaching out to all adolesant boys and girls and to provide them with irob folic tablets once a week in order to improve hemoglobin and ferritin concentrations in adolescent girls, including those with mild-to-moderate anemia and hemoglobin concentrations indicating borderline anemia among the adolescant boys and girls.
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest Hek said that if the citizens are helathy the state as a whole will be healthy, especially the Iron folic tablet which will be administered to the adolescant boys and girls will prove to be beneficial for them as it will help them acquire a healthy body free from deficiency of iron.
However, hek urged upon the doctors to have a prior check up of all the adolescant boys and girls before administering the tablet in order that there will be no side effect for them
Meanwhile, DP Wahlang Commissioner and secretary Health and Family welfare informed that the programme is an initiative of the Central government to adminstered iron folic tablet to all adolescant boys and girls in the country in order to prevent iron deficiency in their body. He also informed that the iron folic tablets will be available at all government schools and aganwadi centres.
It may be mentioned here that the programme aimed at reaching out to all adolescant boys and girls in the state by administering an iron folic table to each one of them on a weekly basis.(SP News)
