Shillong, Nov 15: The Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills said that the present situation was not warranted and was triggered by some media reports in the TV channels about some shortage of salt in Bihar yet to be t confirmed.
In Shillong and East Khasi Hills the Deputy Commissioner clarified that there is no shortage if the demand is normal and public need not panic. we have experienced heavy purchase by public which was not required and the district is having enough stock and more is arriving on a daily basis.
An emergent meeting of the District level price and monitoring committee comprising of whole sellers and members of chamber of commerce in Shillong was held today by me and stocks were taken. As of now there is comfortable position and there is no reason for public to buy salt in bulk quantity as it will give chanceto some mischievous traders to hoard and raise the price and will create artificial shortage.
The retail price of salt was fixed as, TATA IODISE : Rs. 16/kgTAAZA : Rs. 10/kg PRIME, EVERYDAY, I-|SHAKTI, ANNAPURNA etc.: Rs. 12/kg Public is requested to not pay extra amount for purchase and insist of getting cash memos/vouchers from theshop keepers. I earnestly appeal to public to not go by the rumours and not to resort to panic purchases.(SP News)
