Shillong, Jan 21: The directorate of sports and youth affairs Government of Meghalaya organised the Meghalaya day run to commemorate the 42 anniversary of the statehood.
Meghalaya was earlier part of undivided Assam and way back in 1971, the state was curved out from the unified Assam.
To celebrate the day a host of programme is lined up as the celebration started with a Meghalaya Day run which was participated by huge number of youths today morning.
The Meghalaya Day Run started from Madan Iewrynghep and concluded at Jawharlal Nehru stadium.
Speaking on the occasion, principal secretary of Sports and Youth Affairs, P Kharkongor said that the state of Meghalaya is also racing since last 42 years and as a result of which many developmental works have taken place in the state.
Large number of people specially the youth and the children took part in the marathon which saw a colourful be gaining of the celebration.
The enthusiastic youth shared their experience as the cold winter morning saw a huge turnout of the people.
Later in the day, an official function to mark the occasion was also organised by the State Government where as many as fifteen people have been selected for Meghalaya Day awards.
A fire work programme to mark the occasion has also been planned at Khyndailad later in the evening.(SP News)
