Shillong, Sept 19: Close on the heels of the MUA II constituents endorsing the government’s stand on the ongoing influx imbroglio and backing it to the hilt as far as steps and measures initiated to tackle the long pending problem, the East Jaintia Hills District Congress Committee has extended its support to the same.
A communiqué issued by the East Jaintia Hills DCC president, Shitlang Pale informed that the executive committee meeting held on September 17, 2013 held threadbare discussion on the impact of the ongoing agitation by interest groups demanding introduction of ILP.
“As of now, the influx as interpreted by the NGOs and other political parties add no values to the ground realities of which the existing parameters such as 6th Scheduled to the Constitution of India which provides ample scopes and opportunities to safeguard the interest and identity of the indigenous people,” the statement read adding, Hence the meeting resolved to request the government and the NGOs not to implement the outdated and ineffective ILP but work out more realistic and effective mechanisms to address the issue of influx and illegal immigration.”
The East Jaintia Hills DCC also resolved to urge the government to improve and give more teeth to the existing laws to protect the rights and interests of the indigenous tribes of Meghalaya.
“The meeting also resolved to convey its wholehearted support to the policies and programmes of the Government irrespective of Caste, Tribes or Languages,” concluded Pale.(SP News)
