Shillong, May 13: The Eastern Command Army Boxing Championship 2014-15 commenced today at 58 Gorkha Training Centre here in Happy Valley.
The aim of this championship is to form the Eastern Command Boxing team for participation in the Army and subsequently Services Championships. 12 Army boxing teams from Eastern theatre will take part in the championship.
The event which commenced on May 12 will be held for six days and the final bouts will be held on the 17th May 2014. A total of 107 bouts will be played under the rules of IFBA and in all the 10 weight categories during this Boxing Championship.
The International Amature Boxing Association (AIBA) and Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) rules will be followed during the event. Havaldar Suraj Sunar, Havaldar Rana Bahadur Thapa, Rifleman Kishan Thapa, Rifelman Bibek Subba are some of the participants who have made a name in National and International events.(SP News)
