The encounter between the militant and the police lasted for 30 minute

Tura, July 3:  Two CRPF personnel were hurt in a major gun battle between security forces and Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) this morning at Bolsal A’ding, near Resubelpara in North Garo Hills.

The security personnel sustained bullet injuries and have been taken to Down Town Hospital Guwahati for treatment. Their condition is said to be out of danger.

Police say in the encounter two GNLA militant were injured, who has managed to escape.

The constables who were injured in the encounter are – Constable Khocsabar and Constable Ventutchulum from 120 Battalion of CRPF posted at Resubelpara.

North Garo Hills superintendent of police, Jerry Marak said, “One of the CRPF jawans was shot in the chest, while the other in the shoulder when they were on a routine operation to flush out militants hiding in the district”.

The operation against the militants began late last evening, which is still on.

“The exchange of firing lasted for about 30 minutes. It was a makeshift camp in the jungle on a hilltop, a little distance away for Rongkaminchi village”, he said.

He also said that at least 15 hardcore GNLA militants were taking shelter at the makeshift camp. “The encounter took place around 4 am. There was exchange of fire between security forces and the militants. All the militants managed to flee from the spot during the encounter taking advantage of the hostile terrain”.

Police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition from the encounter spot, which included a 3 pistol with 10 rounds of live ammunition and three magazine, 2 hand grenade, a claymore mine, remote control device, 19 detonators, 7 walkie talkie, 2 AK magazine, 130 rounds of AKs and 4 rounds of SLR, 10 rounds of 7.65 live ammunition, 4 SLR magazines, GNLA pad, 5 GNLA ID card, 2 election ID card, 2 labour ID card, demand notes and 51 SIM Cards.

Police say that the camp belonged to Philliport, the area commander of GNLA.(SP News)
