Shillong, March 9: The Lalit Kala Akademi (National Academy of Fine Art) a premier fine art institution of the Government of India to promote, spread and develop Indian fine art culture conducted a five day national painting camp in the city.
The Lalit Kala Akademi which is a non profit autonomous body, funded by the Ministry of Culture. In pursuance of its role, LKA holds exhibitions, institutes scholarships, sponsorships, fellowships, assistance schemes, Lifetime Achievement Awards, and publishes documentary material.
The five-day painting camp which kick started today was inaugurated by the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal saw the participation of artists from across the north easter region. The camp also witnessed renowned and amature artists as well who took part at the camp.
Speaking at the occasion as the chief guest the deputy omissioner Sanjay Goyal said that the talents in the state are no less better and they are not inferior to other artists in the country.
He stressed on the need to open up platforms for local artists to showcase their talents.
Stating that exhibitions and camps like these not only give opportunities to promote their works but also give them a chance to communicate, interact with the other artists of the northeastern states.
He also informed that for the past to years the government has been giving impetus on promoting activities ralating to arts and culture especially those which involve the traditional cultures.
He called for co-operation and support from the like minded artists to partner with the government to promote art forms in the state. (SP News)
