Guwahati, July 23: Welcoming the move of the central government to bring the Food security bill, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that it will help to eliminate poverty in the state as well in the country. ” Food security and Education was my first speech in the Parliament, its food first we need than comes shelter and education, I am very happy about the food security bill” said the Chief minister at a press
conference in Dispur today.He added that the project will be launched from November 19 this year.
“Altogether 75 per cent of the people in villages and 50 percent of people living in urban areas will be benefited out of the bill in Assam. Under this bill, the eligible households in the country will be entitled to food grains at a subsidized price of Rs 3 per Kg for rice; Rs 2 per Kg for wheat and Rs 1 per Kg for coarse grains,” he told reporters adding Group of Ministers (GoM) has been formed to expedite the process smoothly.
He further said that a total of 2.25 crore people of 40 lakh families will be benefited in the state under the Food Security Bill.“We have been asked to prepare the list of beneficiaries by August 1 this year.
After the preparation of the list of beneficiaries, all the claims and objections, if any, will be settled before November,” Gogoi said. The chief minister further said that all the concerned departments have been asked to cooperate with all the departments in implementing the bill at the earliest.(SP News)
