The GCC of Meghalaya,hopes that the MDC’s will fulfill their primary responsibilities

Shillong, March 09: The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya ( comprising of Federation of Khasi States, Ka Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Ka Ri Hynniewtrep, Ka Dorbar Ki Dolloi, & Council of Nokmas) congratulates the newly elected officials Mrs Telinia Thangkhiew, MDC Chairperson, KHADC, Shri. Ardent M Basaiawmoit, MLA & MDC, Chief Executive Member(CEM) KHADC, Shri. Pyniaid Sing Syiem, MDC, Deputy Chairman, KHADC, including Shri. Laitsing Shylla, MDC Chairman, JHADC, and Shri. Thombor Shiwat, MDC, Chief Executive Member, (CEM) JHADC,  who were recently elected to administer the Khasi and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council respectively.

On behalf of the traditional Village, Raid, Hima and Elaka Chiefs, Bah John F Kharshiing, Chairman, Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, Chairman, Ka Dorbar Ki Khlieh Nongsynshar Ka Ri Hynniewtrep, Spokesperson, Federation of Khasi States, also congratulates all the fifty eight (58) MDCs under KHADC (29)  and JHADC(29).

At the same time the Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, is confident and hopes that the MDC’s will fulfill their primary responsibilities and duties that is in completing the urgent codification of the numerous customary laws and practices by Acts and Rules of the respective 53 + 1 Hima/Elaka, in Khasi Hills and 18 +1  Elaka in Jaintia Hills, which will help in protecting and interpreting the customary laws and rights of the indigenous people in this present generation.

The traditional Chiefs hopes that the the Fifty Eight (58) MDCs will codify the Acts and Rules of the 25 Hima Khasi States and the 28+1 Elaka’s which are under their respective constituencies as one of their top most priorities.

The Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya extends it cooperation to the newly elected officials and Executive Committee, of both the Khasi and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Councils, so as to promote and protect the rights of the indigenous people as enshrined in the Sixth Schedule to the Constitution of India.(SP News)
