Shillong, Nov 06: Meghalaya police today paid tribute to the Martyrs who were gun down by the militant outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants at Bangjakona near Kapasipara in the South Garo hills district. Police personals were also present at the condolence meet organised at police headquarter Shillong.
Home Minister Roshan Warjri along senior police officers apart from personnel from all the ranks paid their floral tribute to five martyrs who laid down their lives while fighting militancy.
Speaking to the reporters at the sideline of the programme Warjri informed that the government has adopted some strategies for dealing with the militants which cannot be revealed. She said review meetings are also being held.
Meghalaya additional director general of police (CID) SK Jain said the state police needs to adopt a more dynamic approach while dealing with militants.
Talking to newsmen on the sideline of the condolence meeting organised to pay tribute to five police personnel who were killed by GNLA militants in Garo hills yesterday, Jain said that the approach of the police has to be dynamic and productive to get good results.
“As they change their strategies we also need to change our stratagies,” he told newspersons.
When asked if the police would adopt eye to eye approach while dealing with the outfits, he said that the forces are governed by the rules and police has to go by the law of the land.
According to him, the state police is looking for more details and information regarding yesterdays which incident when GNLA militants killed five police personnel.
He pointed out that the operation commanders are looking for fresh strategies
The police official also maintained that there is no paucity of police personnel in any districts and adequate presence of police personnel is there in all districts though he said it would always be better to have more police personnel.
Suspected Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) militants ambushed a police vehicle at Bangjakona near Kapasipara in the South Garo hills district and killed five policemen. The incident took place at around 11.30 am on Tuesday. Police source said that the five policemen, which includes one havildar and five constables, were going from Baghmara, the district headquarter of South Garo hills, to West Garo hills district headquarter Tura to pick up one Under Trial Prisoner (UTP).
