Shillong, June 24: Seeing an urgent need in catering to the flood victims of Uttarakhand, the state government sent a paragliding team from the Meghalaya Paragliding Association to assist in the rescue mission.
State chief minister Dr Mukul Sangma while informing this here on Monday said that the team had already left for Uttarakhan yesterday and have reached Uttarakhand in the evening.
“Their service will usually be to reach to places where the helicopter could not reach,” Dr Sangma said.
Besides, Dr Sangma also informed that the government has asked all the congress legislators of the state to part with their 1 month salary to the affected victim of the natural calamity.
Terming the incident as a national tragedy, Sangma said that he will also write to all the 60 MLAs of the state Assembly to express their solidarity with the affected victims through their donations.
Expressing grief over the missing report of a family from Shillong who were on a pilgrimage to Kedarnath after the Himalaya Tsunami last week, Dr Sangma said the state government has sent a letter to the chief minister of Uttarakhand seeking its help and support to trace the missing family,
While informing that the necessary steps are taken to see trace the missing family urge the general masses to extend their contributions adding that the donations for this cause could be sent to CM relief fund.(SP News)
