Mawphlang, Oct 25: The two day Monolith Festival at Mawphlang sonpsor by the Khasi Hills Auton
omous District Council was inaugurated by the Union tribal Affair minister Kishore Singh Deo.
The Union minister said that the government always takes all necessary steps to protect the tribal. This festival will help to encourage preserving the rich culture of the society. He also appreciated the District council for holding such festival.
In the festival has showcased the culture that was inherited from time of memorial which many of them was almost forgotten by the young generation. But this festival has review the spirit how to love it own custom and tradition.
In this opening day of the festival many traditional dance from various hima has been display. Apart from the traditional dance, traditional food was also on sale on this day specially the “Kyiad Um’ which is used in the rituals of the khasi.
Prominent person who were presence are, Wansuk Syiem Mp Rajya Sabha, DD Lapang, CEM of the KHADC Pynsngian Syiem and the traditional chief and many others the festival has enthrall the people who have visited because it has show case the originality of the Khasi community in this festival.
