Shillong, May 09: The Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) has strongly urges the Government to immediately constitute a Magisterial Enquiry into all custodial related cases and to report the matter to the National Human Rights Commission.
Referring to the suicide case that took place inside the police Lock-up at Khliehriat Police Station where an accused identified as Roi Simpli(20) allegedly hang himself with his own Nylon T-Shirt over the grill of the ventilation inside the police lockup, MPHRC said that the police have failed to prevent such suicide even if the remote theory of a suicide were at all held to be probable.
Terming all custodial related cases as a gross negligence of duty of the police officials in the police station to prevent such act, MPHRC has strongly urge for departmental proceedings in this matter with a view to prosecuting the errant police personnel and that, in addition, appropriate disciplinary action should be taken against those responsible for the death.(SP News)
