Jowai, Octo 05: The Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Dr. K.K Paul, today made a visit to West Jaintia Hills District and inaugurated the Ialong Park and Recreation –cum- Tourist at Ialong. The Inaugural function was attended by the MLA’s of West and East Jaintia Hills District, T.T.C Marak, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of forest, Government of Meghalaya, Government Officials and others. The function was chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister, Prof. R.C Laloo.
Speaking at the inaugural function at Ampi Theater, Ialong, the Hon’ble Governor of Meghalaya, Dr. K.K Paul said ‘Forest is the gift from God; so we need to protect and preserve it for the next generation’. Being aware that depletion of forest leads to destruction, he express on the importance to maintain the greenery of the forest and to conserve the bio-diversity. Mesmerize by the scenic beauty of this area, he wishes that these areas developed for tourism. The Governor thanked the District Administration for the warm welcomed and also congratulated the folk dancers and singers for their wonderful performance.
The Governor also visited the Durga Temple and Monolith at Nartiang and conveyed his Puja wishes to the people at Nartiang.
Traditional Dance troupe from Jowai, Nongtalang, Shangpung, Raliang, and Ialong added colour to the function.
Sing Mulieh, Ex-MLA, and T.T.C, Marak, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest, Government Meghalaya were the others who spoke on the occasion. The Vote of thanks was delivered by P.S Dkhar, Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, District, Jowai.(SP News)
