Shillong June 10: The Indigenous Biodiversity & Social Welfare Organisation (IBSWO) will be holding a Public Rally on Thursday, 13 June, 2013 at Madan Tirot, Mission Mairang, West Khasi Hills, Meghalaya to protest against construction of Dam over River Khri by the Government of Assam.
As this Dam will impact lives and livelihoods of people of more than fifteen villages under Hima Nongkhlaw, Hima Rambrai in addition to loss of land, forests, biodiversity, contribute to erosion, climate change, etc, IBSWO requests and urges all concerned, i.e. Chiefs, councils of Hima Nongkhlaw, Hima Rambrai, Raid Mynsaw and the people there-in, to kindly attend the mentioned Rally without fail.
Political Parties, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), Peoples’ Organisations (POs), Students’ Organisations (SOs), Women Organisations (WOs), Youth Organisations (YOs) and all indigenous peoples in the land of U Hynniewtrep to also kindly participate in the Rally as an expression of solidarity with those who will primarily be affected by the Dam and to maintain our rights to land, livelihood, etc.
It is expected that concerned organisations, i.e. those against Dam Construction, Rights Defenders, etc . from various States in the region will also attend as an expression of solidarity. (SP News)
