Shillong, April 27: Aiming at building a strong bond between the people living along the border areas and those of the Border Security Force personnel a Civic Action Programme was organised by the BSF at Mahenderganj and Purakhasia of South West Garo Hills district on Saturday.
The Civic Action Programme are being conducted as a central plan to improve the quality of life and welfare of the border population, upgrade the existing infrastructure and create new avenues for bringing positive changes in the life of the border population.
During the programme important items worth approximately Rs five lakh were being distributed to the villagers these include one Power Tiller, water storage tanks, plastic chairs, plastic tables, umbrella, education materials, sewing machine, gum boots, torch light, balnket, pedestal fan,PA equipment besides others were being distributed.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest Sudesh Kumar, IPS informed that the BSF make all efforts to provide safety and security to the people living along the borders.
He therefore asked border population to come forward with the valuable ideas which can be implemented for better border management and also for betterment of living standard of border population.
Besides, he also urged border population to share information about any stranger/unknown person visiting their villages and smugglers, militants etc. He asked villagers to project their problems so that same can be resolved or projected with State administration.
While informing about the BSF, Special Recruitment drive, Kumar said that the drive is to prepare candidates for recruitment.
“BSF will conduct pre-recruitment training at Mahenderganj (South West Garo Hills) and Dalu(West Garo Hills) for preparing the youths in physical efficiency test as well as in the written examination,” Kumar said.
Meanwhile, on the occasion, two medical camps were also organised by the BSF at vill Mahenderganj and Vill Purakhasia in distt South West Garo Hills, in which free medical check-up and medicines worth Rs 50,000/- each were distributed to about 500 people of bordering areas by the 6 senior medical officers of BSF.
The programme was enlightened with a colourful cultural programme presented by the children of bordering schools.(SP News)
