The initiative by the NGO’s to agree for talks withGovt on the ILP, should be appreciated

Shillong, Oct 28: The initiative by the NGO’s to agree to have talks with the Government on the ILP, should be appreciated and accepted by the State Government. If this is declined then this clearly shows that the Government is not concerned to bring about normalcy and peace within Meghalaya, and the Government is hell bent on alienating us from our lands, and diminishing our identity.

One example is the alarming rate of the present electoral roll enrolments drive in Meghalaya, by the election commission which is indeed very frightening and this should be checked and reported by every genuine citizen of the State, working together, so as to flush out all illegal entries, as these are vote bank of few politicians. Where were these people before and who is bringing them in now. Meghalaya cannot be an entry point for anyone who cannot get an enrolment elsewhere. The excuse that we cannot stop anyone, and that anyone can enroll anywhere in India, including Meghalaya, cannot be accepted,  as Meghalaya falls under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India and we are to be protected at all cost.

Government should be aware that had the system of Governance run smoothly, there would be no need for any voices to be raised by NGO’s or any Pressure groups. But the failure of the system itself has brought about the presence of NGO’s and pressure groups, demanding to right the wrong done all these years. Putting pressure by the Government through its police to arrests the NGO’s cannot be tolerated in a democracy, especially with the many failures by the Government, and protest cannot be suppressed by a Government run by one party that represents  hardly 20% of the people of the State.

This, all the more, shows that we need the ILP and the CSWO hopes the concerned Government of Meghalaya lives up to its part of being a Government of the People, and immediately shed its egos and call for talks on the ILP. (SP News)
