The JACATCM today hold pen down strike Agitation

Shillong, August 29: As a mark of protest against the State government’s laid back attitude to their demands, about 15,000 teachers both from the government-aided schools and colleges of Meghalaya today observed a pen-down strike.

The demands they put in front of the government includes regular salaries, benefits and implementation of the education policy and MBOSE/examination reforms.

The convener of the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM), E D Nongsiang said that about 14,000 teachers and 1,000 teachers of deficit and adhoc categories of schools and colleges took part in the pen down strike all over the state.

“Today’s strike is the second of a series of strike announced by the JACATAM in the state in the run up to September 5 which marks the celebration of teachers’ day,” the convener said.

Nongsiang further informed that, “A mass casual leave (CL) on September 3, dharna in various districts and zones on September 4 and mass rally will be held in the state capital on September 5.” (SP News)
