Shillong, Nov 27: On the second day of its visit to the state, the 14th Finance Commission met the members of the Autonomous district council in the state. During the meeting the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Councils has sought Rs 950 crores from the 14th Finance Commission.
During the meeting the members of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) were not present.
Though the members of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) were present but they kept aloof from the media.
Addressing a news conference after meeting the 14th Finance Commission, KHADC CEM PN Syiem said the issue of financial constrain in the state was raised during the meerting.
Putting forward the fund requirement before the 14th Finance Commission, the KHADC sought the fund of Rs 950 crore for the next five years.
The KHADC representatives informed the Commission members that the council has to engage people for the maintenance of the Sacred Groves and the expenditure incurred is huge.
The commission’s members were also briefed that the Council has works with Rangbah Shnongs and other traditional institutions and this too entails expenditure to the state exchequer.(SP News)
