Shillong, April 01: Many Tax payer who went to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District to pay their profession Tax where got with surprise when they where told that the Professional Tax will be hike very soon and the tax payer has to pay only when the new rate is fixed.
Many tax payer argued with the people who where given the challan on profession Tax that why the office of the KHADC did not announced in advance that they have increased the Tax.
The Executive Member In charge trade Mr Antonio War while speaking to SP News Agency said that the Professional Tax cannot be hike by the KHADC this has to come with an act pass by the parliament and has to be notified in the government Gazette. He also said that the profession Tax remain the same as of now there is no hike in it.
The Khasi Hills Autonomous District council started collecting professional tax from all traders and government employees who where having their business and work within the jurisdiction of the KHADC since 1997 Collection of Professional Tax with effect from 1997.(SP News)
