SHILLONG, 31 JULY: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) today expressed its strong resentment over the state government provision to allow Meghalaya residents from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) as candidates for the two posts of Assistant Conservator of Forests, under forests and environment department.
After the meeting with official from the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) which floated the advertisement, KSU General Secretary Auguster Jyrwa said that the union intends to stop such a move as it adversely affects the indigenous candidates from Meghalaya.
“We were told by the MPSC secretary that MPSC is only facilitating the forest department therefore we will proceed with our next step to meet the PCCF and apprise him of our opposition to allowing candidates from East Pakistan to take part in the candidature,” Auguster Jyrwa said.
The advertisement no.: MPSC/ADVT-38/1/2012-2013/20, Dated Shillong the, 1st July, 2013 stated that displaced persons from East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) permanently residing in Meghalaya or intending to reside permanently in Meghalaya, possessing Indian Citizenship could apply for the posts.
Candidates who pass the test (Probationer) will undergo the 2014-2015 Diploma Courses in Forestry (State Forest Service) at the CASFOS, Coimbatore which is likely to commence on June 2014.(SP News)
