The MMSA indicating for agitation if Government dose not protect Doctors

 

Shillong, June 04: The Meghalaya Medical Services Association (MMSA) today sent a letter to the government of Meghalaya demanding from the state government that doctors who served in the rulra areas who where under threat from the militant outfits specially in Garo Hills should be given protection.

In the letter sign by the president and the general secretary have indicated that if the government fail to protect the lives and property of doctors they will go for a peaceful agitation, the letter was address to the Commissioner and secretary to the government of Meghalaya, Health and Faimily welfare, commissioner and secretary home (Police) department and to the Director general of police.

The MMSA said that instances of threat to the Life and Property of the Medical Doctors and the government fail to provide security to thus doctors who are already under threat from the Militant outfits in Garo Hills.

Doctors and other Medical Staff working in various stations of the State in Public Sewice but they where targeted by militant, the MMSA mention also the names of thus doctor which need emergent police protection they are Dr . (Mrs) V.G. Moinin, M & HO, in-charged Charlutta PHC.Dr. (Miss) Mary Margareth Moinim, Dobu PHC. Dr. P. Bezbaruah, DM & HO, East Garo Hills. Master Abhishek Hajong, son of Dr. Maloy Hajong, , Dalu CHC. Dr. Apchan A. Sangma,  Mahendraganj CHC. Dr. Bandi  Sangina, , Dagal PHC. Dr. Linhain Ch Sangina, DM & HO, East  Garo Hills.

The above instances are mere tips of icebergs in as much as in most cases Doctorsare even afraid to report to police the instances of threats received by them from underground outfits on the fear of hrther retaliation in as mucl~a s neither the local police force act positively on such reporting or the news of reporting to the police remains confined in the Police Records.

That, all the aforesaid incidents have been reported to police as well as to your good self seeking immediate and adequate security protection. These are isolated cases although temporary name slate police protection was given, eg. At Mendipathar PHC etc, the security was withdrawn unceremoniously although the threat perception equally persists as of date.

Our Doctors serving in various stations especially of East Garo Hills and adjoiningDistricts are being targeted by so called extremist organizations on regular basis, thereby creating a situation where such Doctors aiid other Medical Staff will be forced to vacate their stations of posting to protect themselves. We specifically urge upon you to direct the concerned Superintendents of Police of the concerned Districts to provide immediate and adequate armed Police coverage on personal basis as well as institution basis for round the clock to secure the life, liberty and property of the Doctors and other Medical Staff who have aiid are reporting instances of threat to them.

We fact it clear that in the event of any failure on the part of the concernedAuthorities to provide immediate security cover on asking to the threatened Doctors Medical Staff, we shall be forced to go for peaceful imitational path to protect our members which may also result in breach in Medicare Services in the State.
