Shillong, Jan 29: To pay due respect to its Liberation War heroes, Bangladesh Government is making all effort to transport back the mortal remains of Bangladesh martyrs who were buried in India during its Liberation war.
The mortal remains will be handed over to the families of the martyrs
Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Tariq A Karim said Karim told reporters on Thursday, “We are working on a project where some of the mortal remains, those which we can identify, can be transported to their families; it will have huge emotional impact on the people of Bangladesh.”
He also said during the Liberation war many of the Martyrs fell on the Indian side of the border who were buried in Meghalaya since the situation was not preferable to shift them to Bangladesh but now as the situation has changed Bangladesh is working on a project to identify the mortal remain its heroes so that they can be transported back.
He also informed that the project will also explore the possibility of having monuments that the Meghalaya governments and local communities can put up which will become a sort of tourist spot for pilgrimage of the friends and families of the martyrs who have died and buried here but cannot be transported.
The Bangladesh government had written to the Indian government that it wants to take the mortal remains of the soldiers to their country so that proper respect to its war heroes can be accorded by burying them in their motherland.(SP News)
