Shillong, May 21: Taking serious view of the alleged brutal abused and assault to a 29 year old man identified as Banjop Suiam by four policemen led by Manoj Basumatary from Lad Rymbai police outpost on Sunday night, the Meghalaya Peoples Human Rights Council (MPHRC) has urged upon the District Administration to immediately institute a magisterial probe to ascertain the real causes and consequences behind the incident.
“The Supreme Court time and again, in its verdict indicted the policemen in strong terms and noted that this outright violation of law committed by the erring police personnel of the law themselves is reflective of a larger problem, a systemic malaise as it were, in the police organisation in where the policeman is still allowed to act with such impunity” said Dino D.G. Dympep, Chairman MPHRC.
The MPHRC has also demanded that the Director General of Police, Meghalaya must institute a separate Departmental Enquiry and the tainted erring police personnel involved in the incident must be immediately place under suspension.
“Policemen who commit criminal acts deserve harsher punishment than others because it is the duty of the policemen to protect the people and not to break the law themselves” said MPHRC.
The MPHRC has strongly condemned the assault by some anti social element to a Traffic Police personal while on duty at Mawlai and it strongly urged that the culprit involved should dealt with firmly according to the law. (SP News)
