The National Voter’s Day celebration

Shillong, Jan 24: As part of observing the National Voter’s Day celebration which will be held on January 25, the East Khasi Hills District Administration today organised a special function known the ‘Nights of 1000 lights’ procession.

The procession was taken part actively by people from various localities and from different walk of life. Carrying with them either lighted Dongmusa (traditional torch) or candles the people chant and sing along the way till they converge at the state central library premises.

It may be mentioned here that the recently the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District Sanjay Goyal mentioned that the district adminstration this time is involving local dorbar to further strengthen the efforts of the making the National Voters day a success.

It was also learnt that this time the East Khasi Hills District Administration came up with new innovative ideas to encourage and facilitate voters’ participation in the upcoming elections slated for February 23.

The procession known as ‘Nights of 1000 lights’ was to encourage the peopel especially the youth to get themseleves enrolled and be apart of the democratic system of the country.

Talking to media persons Deputy Commissioner Sanjay Goyal informed that light is a symbol of light and hope and it is hoped that the programme will spread awareness to the people that they should come forward and join in the election process.

He also informed that various programme is being done with a motive to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming elections and the procession will be held with an aim to inculcate a sense of responsibility among the people especially the youth

“It is very important that youth especially involved in the democratic process of the country, as they will be responsible to take the country forward”, Goyal said.

While mentioning that most of the country’s population were youths, the Deputy Commissioner said that it is important that they should enroll themselves and cast their votes.

Stating that their earlier efforts were focused on enrolment of new voters especially the youth, Goyal said their focus has now shifted to voters’ participation to ensure maximum participation in the upcoming elections.(SP News)
