The NCCI to convene a meeting of all Tribal and Adivasi MPs, of Parliament

Durgapur, July 14: After a three day meeting of the National Council Churches India (NCCI) they have taken the resolution that they will convene the meeting with all the MP of the Tribal and Advasi to discuss with them mainly on the problem face by the minority in India.

The NCCI after  threadbare discussion and deliberation, they will also sent to the government of India that, to make all Tribals and Adivasis areas in India covered by the VI Schedule to the Constitution of India instead of having two Schedules namely V and VI Schedules with a hope and intent that Tribals and Adivasis outside North East India will also get the similar privileges and safeguards.

To include de-notified tribes in the list of Scheduled Tribes thereby removing separate categorization and classification of Tribals and Adivasis.

To recognize Tribals and Adivasis as indigenous people and therefore, Government of India should honour the Indigenous People’s Day as declared by United Nations Organization and the rights of the indigenous people as per provisos found in the UN declarations and conventions.

To take holistic approach towards development particularly projects like dam construction, mining, industries and so on in Tribal and Adivasi areas without taking away their rights, resources and livelihood including that of biodiversity.

Any proposals of implementing development, projects and schemes in Tribal and Adivasi areas must obtain their prior informed consent on the matter.

From the NCCI ha also sent to all others Christian denomination in India and aked them, to meaningfully observe the Tribal and Adivasi Sunday on first Sunday of August every year.

To set up Legal Awareness Cell with regard to the Rights of Tribals and Adivasis, and laws enacted in their favour.To empower Tribal and Adivasi communities already in the church for equal participation in the life and ministry of the church.To keep abreast developments regarding Tribals and Adivasis as well to provide them with information, assistance in obtaining their legal rights as provided in the Constitution of India.

The NCCI will convene a national consultation in partnership with India Peace Centre and North East Dialogue Forum bringing together the 14 States namely, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhatishgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, and Tripura to identify the commonalities, problems and differences therein.

To consistently follow up on government schemes and implementation meant for Tribals and Adivasis, and to be in constant dialogue with National Scheduled Tribes Commission and update the member churches promptly.(SP News)
