The NGT will come to Shillong on 2 June for hearing on banning coal mining

Shillong, May Jymmang 20: The Supreme Court of India while hearing a batch of Appeals filed challenging the order of the NGT dated 17.04.2014 banning mining of coal in Meghalaya, after hearing Mr. Soli Sorabjee Sr. Adv. and Mr. Mukul Rohtgi, Sr. Adv appearing for the Petitioners as well as Mr. P. K. Goswami, Sr. Adv. for the Respondent granted liberty to the Petitioners to file appropriate application before NGT in Shillong for recalling/modification and variation of the order dated 17.04.2014, in view of the fact that the  case before the NGT had been fixed on 2.6.2014 at Shillong.

Earlier in the day the NGT while hearing the case, on the prayer of All Dimasa Students Union had adjourned the hearing for two weeks as the Supreme Court of India was hearing the statutory appeals which had been filed challenging the maintainability of the proceedings before the NGT.

The case now stands posted on 2.6.2014 for hearing the contesting parties for recall / modification / variation of the order of NGT banning mining in Meghalaya including the issue of jurisdiction of the NGT as per order of the Supreme Court of India.(SP News)
