Dimapur May 17: The organization NEDF at the press conference held today at Dimapur has put the question what purpose has AFSPA served ? Who benefits from its enforcement ? Why does the Govt. of India plays ‘wait and see’. India is supposed to be the largest democracy in the world yet for repealing or revoking AFSPA, it listens to the Army’s opinion.
Nobody cares for Irom Sharmila of Manipur indefinite hunger strike since the last 12 years consecutively and the irony is that she is under arrest. Her only appeal is for AFSPA to be removed from the statute books permanently as it has no room in a democracy.
So many innocent persons including women and children in the name of AFSPA have been dealt by extreme action on mere suspicion and yet the indefatigable young lady who wishes with all her heart to stop senseless killings under AFSPA is charged with attempt to commit suicide.(SP News)
