New Delhi May 08: The delegation of the North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), met the Prime Minister of India today, where a Memorandum was submitted highlighting the various important issues affecting the North Eastern Region.
The issued that where discussed by the delegation with the prime minister Dr Manmohan Singh at his residence the NESO asked the prime minister to to introduce more professional and job oriented courses in which he assured the delegation for a very serious thought on the matter.
In the meeting with the NESO the Prime Minister has assured the delegation that the Ministry of DoNER will not be dissolved but will be restructured to make it more effective in its functioning.
The Prime Minister agreed that the problem of influx of illegal migrants is a cause of concern and illegal migrants should be identified and deported but at the same time the genuine citizens should not be affected.
With regard to the repeal of AFSPA, we pressed for the need to repeal AFSPA and other dacronian laws, the Prime Minister is non committal but is assuring the delegation that the Government will take our concern into consideration and may be the government will depute a parliamentary team to study the ground realities.
With regard to the on going peace process, the Prime Minister also express his anguish that a peaceful and an acceptable settlement to be arrived at in a time bound manner.
Where mega dams are concern, he has made his mind very clear that the north East, being a sensitive seismic zone, this fact should be taken into serious consideration so as not put the lives of the people at risk.
The Prime Minister has made it clear that the flood and erosion problem is recognized as a national problem.With regards to the other issues, the Prime Minister has assured the delegation that the government will go in depth to address the various issues raised. It can be said that we had a healthy discussion and the interactions are specific.
Earlier in the day, the delegation met with the members of the North East MP forum which includes the Chairman, Mr Mukut Mithi, MP, Rajya Sabha, the General Secy., Mr Bhaishya, MP, Lok Sabha, Mr Vincent Pala, MP, Lok Sabha and Mr Takam Sanjoy, MP, Lok Sabha, where in they have assured the delegation that the issues raised are of serious concern to the whole of the North Eastern Region and they will also take the initiative to take up the matter with the Government of India.(SP News)
