Tura, Oct ,19th: The pro ILP group from West Garo Hills have taken exception to the comment made by the CM, Dr Mukul Sangma, who called them a bunch of ‘jokers’. The five NGOs have come out strongly condemning the message sent by the Government and said that the CM himself was a joker for making denigrating comments against the group.
The pro ILP group condemned the comments and said it did not stand in good taste. They also said that the support that the CM has perceived is apparent and not real. Their movement was for the people of the state and the fight to implement ILP would continue.
They said they would intensify their struggles further to ensure the Government listened to their demands for the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP).
Meanwhile, reports have been coming in of sporadic arson incidents in the town of Tura. According to sources, tyres were burnt in front of Nehru Park to protest the ongoing cyclothon yesterday. Unconfirmed reports have also come in of tyres being burnt in Chitoktak and Araimile areas. Even faraway Betasing was rumoured to be caught up in the arson cases.
The vitriolic between the CM and the pro ILP group has been growing ever since the 29th of August, when the groups stormed out of the meeting with the CM. The CM has stated that they would not implement ILP within the state no matter what, while the NGOs have not let their guard down or sought a compromise.(SP News)
