Shillong November 23: Condemned over the illegal selling of land belonging to the Raid at Shilliang Umkhen, near Mawdiangdiang in the outskirts of the city by “land sharks” by “land mafias”, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) Mawryngkneng circle along with the Civil Society Women’s Organization said that selling of large acres of land will greatly affect the local people especially the farmers who farm in those lands.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday wallambok Kharsati President of the KSU Maryngkneng circle informed that land were sold to big businessmen and to the government.
Expressed strong resentment against such illegal selling of land is against the Kharsati said that the KSU would soon lodge a complaint with the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and the Syiem of Hima Mylliem on this issue.
Kharsati said that the random selling of large acres of land will greatly affect the local people of the area adding that most of the local people are farmers.
According to Kharsati, “The property of the Sein Raid cannot be sold to anyone. It can only be inherited to the younger generation of the clan from their ancestors”.
Meanwhile, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said “When the government buys the land, the real owners do not dare take on the government,” she said, adding, that till date over 3000 acres of land has been surreptitiously claimed by the “land sharks” and “land mafias” are ruling the roost.(SP News)
