Shillong, April 11: The recent rape case of a mentally unsound women at Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills has drawn serious criticism from cross sections of the society who even termed it as an inhumane act.
The 26 year old lady from Nongstoin was raped by four men identified as Khlandingwell Marngar a 23 year old boy took the lady to his rented house and forced her to drink alcohol after which they commit the crime against her. Khlandingwell was then joined by three of his friends Drester marngar (30), Damian Kharbani (27) and Kwidolin Iawphniaw (20). Khlandingwell and his accomplice then raped her forcibly in turns.
The victim however managed to escape in the morning as the accused were asleep.
Meanwhile, the four accussed have been arrested and will be forwarded to the court.
The civil society women organisation has also condemned the incident and demanded stringent action against the accused.
It may be mentioned here that, the state is yet to settle the Williamnagar gang rape case of which the trial is on at the Tura fast track court. The sudden surge in the number of rape cases in the state has taken the graph of rape to new levels of fear and shock evenas the government, civil societies are running helter skelter in their bid to curb the menace.(SP News)
