The rivers flowing towards Bangladesh are used for smuggling of forest wood

 

Shillong, July 23: On 22nd July 2013, on specific input regarding smuggling of Sal Wood, BSF troops of BOP Baghmara  ex-36  Bn deployed in South Garo Hills distt of Meghalaya seized  104 cft Sal wood and 132 cft non-Sal Wood of Approx value Rs. 6,28,000/- while it was being smuggled to Bangladesh. The rivers flowing towards Bangladesh are used for smuggling of forest wood. It is said that the wood inform of logs are left in the rivers with pre-defined identification mark, and it is collected on Bangladesh side. The seized items have been handed over to concerned department for further disposal

In another incident, BSF troops of BOP Tuka ex-108 Bn deployed in East Khasi Hills distt of Meghalaya apprehended one Bangladeshi national namely Md Faridu Islam aged 35 yrs s/o Dina Islam r/o vill- Banpur, PO & PS- Companyganj, Distt- Sylhet, Bangladesh near BP No. 1257/MP while he was infiltrating from Bangladesh to India.
