Shillong, July 26: The state government will start rolling out the National food security programe which was implemented by the government of India on July 5 this year.
The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting which was held on Thursday. Informing the procedures in implementation the programme in the state, Chief Minister of the state Dr Mukul Sangma while talking to media person after the meeting said that the state government has advice the department to work out on the timeline as well as to prepare a calender of action linked with timelines.
“The first action is to evolve a criteria for inclusion or exclusion of the eligible households of beneficiaries,” Dr Sangma said adding that for the whole process to be completed the government department has been given three weeks time.
While informed that as per the ordinance the legal entitlment of food grains to each househlold that will come under the scheme will be 5 Kg of rice at the rate of rupees 3.
He also informed that subsequent to this there will be a mechanism adopted at the block level and the municipalities level where the households required to be covered will be captured by the format which will be prepared by the department to determine their social economic status out of which different slaps will be completed until reaching 76. 7 percent of the total population.
In respect of rural areas and 63 percent of the total population in respect of urban areas Within this percentage the Chief Minister informed that it will include all the BPL families would be included in the BPL list as according to the recent social economic census subsequent to that all special caterogies covered under AAY, under Anapurna and student of recognized SC, ST Hostels will be covered within the pecentage.
Besides he also informed that the department has been mandated to work out a mechanism to dertermine the social economic status of all families in respective villages, localities and different slaps of economic status will be captured and for this sixty days was given to the deparment to complete.
Further he also said that after completion of all the requirement within the timeframe set by the governmemt ration cards will be issued to the elegible families with the name of the female head of the family and that exercise should be completed within another sixty days and besdes which the department should have the complete auditing of the storage facilities and their capacities.
He also mentioned that the buffer stock capacity for storage of food grains should have a capacity to store food grains for the minimum three months.(SP News)
